Job Status: Full-time Regular Job Code: HS03255 Industry: Government Contractor, High Tech / IT Education: Doctoral Years Experience Desired: 5 Years Work Location: Bethesda (NIH), Maryland Area of Interest: Information Technology, Biotechnology Project Overview: Candidate will work with a high visibility research and technology transfer project team to provide support services. Will require analysis of research results, communication with both participating and non-participating scientists and administrators, assisting in developing new plans and criteria. Subject matter expertise must encompass knowledge and experience with to analyze and manipulate structural information for optimizing activity and minimizing toxicity. Training and expertise in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry in order to perform data and structural analysis of molecules being tested is desired. Knowledge of principles of in vivo/in vitro models, regulatory affairs, and drug development is important to the task. Knowledge of technologies used in drug discovery, preclinical activity/toxicological/pharmacokinetic testing in order to evaluate available or generated new information on novel compounds. Ability to use computer-based data and analysis systems to evaluate and predict drug activity in therapeutic assays are critical to the nature of decision making. Candidate will work closely with existing SRA project team members. Daily Responsibilities: Project support will be provided by assisting in administering translational research efforts focused on finding new treatments for disorders of the nervous system, including but not limited to: Identification, evaluation and reporting of assays and chemical compounds that have potential use in therapeutic development. Assist in planning for and receiving data from preclinical tests of drug candidate compounds. Organizing and maintaining data required in analysis of chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of drugs being developed as anticonvulsants. Serve as an additional point of contact for participants seeking information and assistance. Provide written, oral and electronic communications with participants. Secondary activities will include: Performs neuroscience literature searches to support current findings and background information. Directs searches on chemical structures and other biological information (from within the program or obtained from participating sources) to support evaluations. Administrative support tasks to the Program Director to include but not limited to: Writing new initiatives and program announcements, organizing and planning workshops, meetings and presentations to outside scientists, representatives from academia and industry as well as intramural staff. Assists the program in its administrative operations by reviewing internal practices and procedures and recommending areas for improvement, preparing financial/budgetary reports as necessary, maintaining specialized databases as necessary for program operation. Initial tasks will be determined by the Program Director of the ASP and the Contract Officers Technical Representative.
