>To: councilorsofHBMUOAA2001 @ yahoogroups . com >Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 02:24:44 -0000 Dear Dr. Cai and all councilor members: I am writng to report on their trip around US. They came to US for the 58th Annual Meeting of American Cleft Palate -Craniofacial Association at Minneapolis City of Minnesot. Their first stop was Los Angeles (April 20-24). During their three day's time in LA, they visited Disney Land and Hollywood via a traveling agent. After spent 4 days for the meeting (April 24-28), they came to Washington DC on April 28th, Dr. Shen Zhong picked them up at airport, sent them to their hotel and took them to visit DC area for the whole weekend. On April 29th Dr. Shan Zhong, Zhifang Liu, Jizhou Yan, Xuefeng Liu and I hosted a welcome buffet party at rockville. Dr. Jizhou Yan and Xuefeng Liu took them to visit NIH after buffet. Next morning, they left DC for their two day tour to Baltimore inner harbor, Philadelphia, and New York(arranged by Dr. Zhong again). After coming back from NYC, Dr. Zhifang Liu sent them to Baltimore and they killed two days in Baltimore and got chance to visit Dr. Jiaen Liu's, at GBMC hospital, one of the best hospital in Baltimore area. Dr. Liu is the director of sevarl laboratories and he showed them his office, his laboratory and several departmenmts of the hospital. Then they got chance to meet Dr. Shuiqing Ye at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ye has done a great job to help many alumni and also gave me lots of advise and help. He has just finished co-training a Ph.D student with professor Xin Zhou. Since they came from dental school, one of the most wanted destination was the dental school, University of Maryland. They visited Dr. Ke Ren and took lot of pictures of dental school. Dr. Ken Ren introduced them to his laboratory members and told them the histry of dental school. They also got chance to visit Baltimore(?) museum. and went to shopping as well. I was amazed by how many pictures Dr. Fu had took-can you believe it--over one thousdand! Dr. Zhifang Liu sent them back to DC and Dr. Shen Zhong sent them to airport to LA on May 5th, They went to Las Vegas which is the place every group from our home university went to(detail see Dr. He's message). Many alumni had given thier help and concering to the visitors. They all deserv my thanks and the visotors' thanks too. Dr. Shen Zhong put lots of time and energy to help them and me. Without his great support, can't imagine how difficult it would have been. Dr. Zhifang Liu also did good job for attending the party and transportting them between Baltimore and DC. Dr. Jizhou Yan, and Xuefeng Liu both spent their time for the party and introducing NIH to them. Dr.Jiaen Liu, Dr. Shuiqing Ye and Dr. Ke Ren for giving them tour for the labs. Dr. Xiaoqiang Kan from New York called many times and promised to helped them if they need. So did Dr. Mei Hui Pan(NY) Dr. Xuejun Wang(Ohio) and Dr. Lilly Chan(NM) called and chatted with them. Dr. Jialiang Li and Yu Han from Chicago also promised to give them hand if they planed to visit Chicago All our effort had made their trip comfortable, enjoyable and convenient. They said they felt they were travelling in China not in US. Again thanks for everbody's effort and time. Jiancheng Tu ---------- MESSAGE FROM DR SANGGANG HE ------------------ Dear Jiancheng, After we said good-bye to you in Baltimore, we back to Los Angeles, next day we arrived in Las Vegas, made an exciting whole city tour and gambled near to the next day morning. The results were that Xuewen ended in a draw, Prof. Fu Yuchuan win 75 $ and I lost. We continued on from Nevada to Arizona via Utah. After that, we returned Beijing from Los Angeles. In Beijing we made a short stay for adjusting our bioclock and then returned home safely in May 12. Prof. Fu Yuchuan was very busy with his work when he returned his duty and Yang Xue wen had many meetings to attend, and I revised my theses, printed, and prepared for theses defense till its over. So it is too late to write you about our news, I hope you could excuse me for being late. We were delighted to have the chance of visiting your working place and your esteemed city. Though our stay was rather short, we have learned a great deal, thanks to you for your warm reception and introduction to our Alumni in Baltimore and in Maryland. The ability of your arrangement, organization and your scientific talent as well as the beautiful scenery of Baltimore have left an unforgettable impression on us. Allow me, on behalf of Xuewen and Prof. Fu Yuchuan and in my own name, to express our sincere thanks to you and all alumni. I do hope that we would have more opportunities to visit your palace again in the days to come. With best regards, Sangang -------------------------------- >From: "Zheng, Zhi-Ming (Thomas) (NCI)" <zhengt @ exchange . nih . gov> >Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 08:44:23 -0400 You did a good job. Unfortunately, I didn't meet them even though they had a chance visiting my laboratory. I am going home this month and will discuss with HBMU on joint-recruiting Ph.D students directly from medical school. Sincerely yours, Zhi-Ming Zheng
