Annual gathering information and New Year's greeting

Fri Dec 29 11:23 2000 -- (4179 bytes)
Hi everybody,

Happy New Year!

It has been trememdous for us in the first year of the new millennium
(or the last year of the 20th century, as some people prefer). Our alma
mater, Hubei Medical University, was incorperated into the new Wuhan
University. It is always a pain to see the name we are so familiar to
discontinue and the school we love so much cease to exist as an entity,
but on the other hand, we are happy to see the school that nourished us
grow stronger, albeit under a new name. Let's wish our alma mater and
the new Wuhan University the best.

For our organization, I have recommended no name change in the next year
to President Dr. Ye and the annual gathering next month. So we'll keep
HBMU at least for now. Again thanks to all who took part in the poll, and
those who turned their ballots after the results were "certified", and
those who thought about of it. Your participation is greated appreciated.

Personally, we added a new family member, a lovely baby girl named Yupu.
She is now two and half month old. I added a recent family picture on
my personal web site. For those of you who sent me greetings, I will
probably not be able to reply individually.

The next "cold winter" gathering is set to be on January 20th, please refer
to Dr. Ye's message for details. Please make every effort to attend. Also,
please see greeting cards from Dental School Dean FAN and pictures of Vice
Prime Minister Li's visit at our Web site:
http://www.neurophys.wisc.edu/~cai/hbmu/ .

Wishing you and your family the best in the new year!

Hi, Yidao:

I received your email on polling about our alumni association name
Issue. Thank you very much on that effort. I concur with your
recommendation. Please post your New Year greetings and the following
announcement to our alumni. We welcome our alumni to attend the
Gathering. We will have leadership transition, summary of our alumni
activities in 2000, discussion of our alumni association name issue,
suggestion of how our medical school should be better incorporated into
Wuhan University. Zhong Shen might like to tell you an exciting news
that Vice Prime Minister Li Lanqing visited our dental school on Dec.
19. In his Wuhan itinerary, our dental hospital was the only choice.
During the visit, Vice Prime Minister Li Lanqing said our dental
hospital was better than 301 hospital of Beijing.

Last year, Ke Ren successfully organized our gathering in Four Seasons
Buffet. The food is delicious and authentic Chinese style. We'll be back
to the same restaurant. It will be lots of fun when old friends are all
under one roof. Please mark your calendar and plan to be there.
