How are you? I have some good news on our alumni which are summerized as followings:
1. Recently, a new hepatitis E virus has been identified by Dr. Meng Xiang-Jin from swine. His discovery was just published by PNAS entitled: A novel virus in swine is closely related to the human hepatitis E virus PNAS 1997 94 (Sept. 2): 9860-9865. The news had been released to public by NIH and NIAID one week before the publication.
2. Dr. Ren Ke, Assistant Professor at University of Maryland Dental School, received two NIH R01 grants (R01 DE11964-01, R01 DE11964-01S1) to study MECHANISMS OF PERSISTENT TEMPOROMANDIBULAR PAIN.
3. Dr. Hu Jianming was offerred an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Boston University School of Medicine. He has accepted this offer and started his new job this month.
4. Dr. Liu Shaofan at Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, Missouri, had a paper published by very pretigious EMBO Journal entitled: cyclosporin A-sensitive induction of the EB virus lytic switch is mediated via a novel pathway involving a MEF2 family member, EMBO J 16 (Jan. 1):143-153, 1997
I think we all should congratulate to their achievements in science and development. I personally admire their significant contributions which make our alumni association highly respected. Have a nice Moonday!
Sincerely yours,
Zhi-Ming Zheng, Ph.D.
